MICHAEL SPROULE

"The Lure of the Badlands" is a series of paintings based on the landforms and topography of the badlands of Alberta, North and South Dakota, and Saskatchewan. These paintings have been inspired by annual western visits over many years, and by terms as artist-in-residence at the Wallace Stegner House in Eastend Saskatchewan.

"The Lure of the Badlands" opened in Ottawa at the Canadian Museum of Nature in November 2001. A western tour began in August 2006 with exhibitions in Medicine Hat, Red Deer and Lethbridge Alberta.

Other projects in progress include work in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, the Scablands of eastern Washington, and sites of glacial activity in Saskatchewan and Quebec.
